Hey Faye Thompsonistas,

It may sound corny, but I love this country—imperfections and all. As a world traveler, I realize that no nation is perfect. Yet, there is no other place on earth I’d rather live. It’s a privilege to breathe American air and walk on this soil. It’s a privilege to have voted for President Barack Obama not once but twice not knowing that he would one day award my Uncle Amos Thompson the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor as a Montford Point Marine. The same uncle who worked on the B & O Railroad and taught me how to play jacks as a little girl in Ohio.

I grew up and worked for the Federal government too, following in my parents’ footsteps. Lifelong friendships, awesome vacations, a college education, and time to write 3 1/2 books were just some of my blessings during more than two decades of service.

Lord, bless the leaders of this world. Remind us that peace is possible.

Have a safe July 4th.

God bless America.
